Thingamajiggy
Located in Huai Sai, Mae Rim, Chiang Mai, Thingamajiggy is a coffee shop conceived as an "ever-evolving architecture" designed to transform alongside its surrounding rice fields, western mountain ranges, and growing shade trees. Embracing natural material lifespans without artificial chemical preservation, Yangnar Studio built a simple bamboo pavilion using traditional tools (knives, drills, and Chiang Mai axes). The structure features untreated Pai Sang Mon bamboo poles driven into the ground with plastic-wrapped footings, bound using fishing net twine tied by Lisu craftsmen, and topped with agricultural shade netting. Serving as an open, boundary-less interspace between two small buildings, it invites visitors to engage with seasonal outdoor elements while waiting for the planted trees to mature.
