Rim Noeun House
The homeowner intended for this to be their final lifelong residence, requiring a fully equipped, functional layout to support daily living. Many details I originally drafted raised questions among the builders—some details were unexecutable, while for others, the craftsmen suggested superior alternatives. This provided a crucial lesson: having a thorough understanding of on-site construction techniques leads to far more efficient, effective architectural design. Following this experience, I began stripping away non-essential structural elements in subsequent projects, retaining only what was necessary and functional. However, because we did not oversee the construction team 100% of the time, various lines and details did not strictly align with the initial blueprints. The craftsmen adapted details organically based on site context, resulting in a finish less polished than other Yangnar Studio projects. Yet upon completion, I found that its unrefined nature breathed life and charm into the house in a way that could never be artificially planned. Later on, the homeowner desired additional workspace, prompting the addition of an underground subterranean study. Built specifically to escape summer heat and seasonal air pollution, the space features thick earth walls that maintain cool interior temperatures naturally without requiring air conditioning.
