Yong House
Yong house is a 105-year-old traditional Lanna-style house relocated from Pa Sang District, Lamphun, to Hang Dong District, Chiang Mai. Serving as a second home for a Bangkok-based owner, the reconstruction presented unique challenges due to a lack of original architectural drawings, requiring the team to reverse-engineer the structure from photos. When modern clay tiles added unexpected weight and caused the roof frame to sag, the architects inserted an internal truss system to reinforce the roof without disturbing the lower structure. The team adapted the building's proportions by adding raised footings to replace decayed pillar bases, integrating an adjacent granary (lhong khao) into a new bedroom via a connecting terrace, and preserving historical integrity through salvaged materials, regional clay tiles, exposed wiring, and vintage switches.
